Pony boys should undergo training on first aid to equip them with technical know-how to attend to accidents and medical emergencies relating to their livelihood.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said this is essential considering that horseback riding, a popular tourist attraction in the city, is one activity with high accident risk.

Assistant City Environment and Parks Management Officer Marivic Empizo said mandatory first aid training has been scheduled on April 28 for Lualhati barangay horsemen as confirmed by Punong Barangay Julius Ampal.

The mayor instructed Emergency Medical Service head Dr. Dandeo Halog to collaborate with Pony Boys Association officers for the conduct of similar trainings for all their members.

A resident whose foreigner visitor got accidentally kicked by a horse at Wright Park last week voiced out concern on the lack of medical emergency teams in the area to attend to such emergencies.

The mayor acknowledged the necessity for such services in Wright Park.

The Cepmo also reminded horse owners not to leave their horses in areas where people traverse to prevent untoward incidents.  – Aileen P. Refuerzo
