The city government will prohibit the conduct of all private social events or gatherings from Jan. 15 to 31.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said this is due to the high Covid-19 incidents and rapid increase in infection rate in the city.
He said there is need to implement this additional restriction after determining that these social events had become avenues for virus transmission as majority of the patients had a common history of attending private functions like weddings, birthday parties and similar events.
Among the gatherings prohibited are weddings, receptions, engagement parties, debut and birthday parties, anniversary celebration parties, bridal or baby shower, thanksgiving parties, and other social gatherings to celebrate or commemorate family milestones, regardless of the venue.
Physical attendance in gatherings for necrological services, wakes, inurnment, and funerals for those who dies of causes other than the Covid-19 and memorial services for the remains of those who died of Covid-19 is limited to members of the immediate family living within the same household only.
Offices, department, and agencies in the public and private sector may pursue urgent or indispensable work-related group activities only, but the use of teleconference or videoconference is recommended.
“With our present Covid-19 status, it would be best to postpone or cancel these events for the mean time,” the mayor said. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
