The annual EMA Cup Golf Tournament 19th edition, a one-day fun tournament of former representatives and yours truly for the benefit of the various projects of the Rotary Club of Downtown Session headed by president Kelwyn Roi Tan and the St. Theresa of Avila Foundation will tee on Oct. 7 at the Baguio Country Club.
The tournament director is Dr. William Occidental and the event chairperson is Rotarian Kristine Joy Tabara. Joining the core team are past president Kat Gumaya and incoming president Ryan Gumaya.
The activity would augment the funding of the present and forthcoming medical missions, feeding programs, scholarship programs, and other worthy projects which they have been undertaking for the past years.
Among these are construction of school toilets, water system in Itogon, medical missions in Kibungan and other parts of Benguet, bloodletting, wheelchair-giving, college scholarships, and at one point allocation of P5 million to the dialysis patients of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.
The first EMA Cup Golf Tournament was held on Feb. 16, 1997 participated in by at least 200 golfers including then President Fidel V. Ramos and First Lady Amelita Ramos, Presidential Management Staff Chief Alexander Aguirre, Press Secretary Hector Villanueva, and top officials of Baguio City and Benguet.
Pat Abalde scored 54 points to emerge the winner and ruled class A while the late Fred Puckett broke par to emerge as top finisher and Col. Marion Lardizabal with the lowest net score.
Other winners were Butch Lacson who ruled class B, Tinoy Paragas in class C, Harvey Robles in class D, and Auring Lacson in the lady’s category.
To carry out their objective, the organizers relied primarily on the assistance and support of benefactors.

The 19th EMA Cup expects the regular local par busters who will support the golf-for-a-cause with the commitment of the Baguio Blue Bloods golfers led by Bureau of Internal Re-venue-Cebu Director Douglas Rufino, Arnold Tolding, and Marlo Quadra.
The participants are requested to donate the following: BCC members – P1,800 while guests shall pay P2,500.
Philippine National Police Chief Benjamin Acorda is invited to attend together with Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla, a staunch supporter of the past EMA Cup series.
The one day 18-hole will adopt the System 36 modified Stableford scoring system for guests and the Medal System for members with four men’s categories and one ladies’ category.
