Rebels, firearms ceded in Ifugao
KIANGAN, Ifugao – Sixteen members of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilya-Leonardo Pacsi Command, with five alleged Militia ng Bayan members and 11 New People’s Army supporters, surrendered to government forces in Mountain Province last week of March.
The surrenderees turned in one M60 machine gun, one caliber 7.62mm AK47, one M16 rifle, two caliber 30 M1 garand rifle, one hand grenade, one handheld radio, and other subversive documents.
Their surrender resulted from efforts of the Community Support Program conducted by the troops of 54th Infantry (Magilas) Battalion and personnel of Mountain Province Police Provincial Office.
“I commend these personalities who courageously appeared before the government forces with the assistance of concerned citizens and local government units. The surrender of assorted high and low powered firearms and other war materiel is a clear manifestation that armed struggle only puts everyone in harm’s and destroys everyone’s future,” 54IB Commander Lt/Col.
