The Philippine Red Cross-Baguio City chapter collected 13,050 cc of blood from 29 donors during the observance of the World Blood Donor’s Day.

Jennelyn Terre, medical technologist of PRC Baguio, expressed gratitude to the kindhearted individuals who donated blood as she appealed for more individuals to share their blood to save lives.

“With the lockdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the supply of blood is critically low that is why we   appeal for donors,” Terre said.

She said that Red Cross received a lot of request for whole blood, platelets, plasma, and others especially that dengue cases are rising because of the rainy season, but they cannot provide all the requested blood because of low supply.

“We urge walk-in blood donors to come at PRC office. We are open 24 hours,” she said.

For those wanting to donate blood, Terre said they may   call the   PRC hotline at 442-4036. With the present situation that  public transport is still a concern,  the PRC  can  fetch  and  bring  them   home  after donating blood.

“Give blood and make the world a healthier place.”

Mann Sortejas, a walk-in blood donor, said he wants to help in his own little way   those who need of blood.

Donating blood regularly benefits not only the recipient but the donor as well. Blood donation helps the donor shed extra calories. It can also reduce blood cholesterol level. Donors also get the chance to have free screening of their blood type.
