WRIGHT PARK POOL CLOSED — The reflection pool of Wright Park, which is one of the frequently visited sites in Baguio City, was closed last Jan. 6 until further notice to give way for the rehabilitation and installation of fountains by the City Environment and Parks Management Office. — Neil Clark Ongchangco

The city government will begin the rejuvenation of the reflection pool at Wright Park on Jan. 9.
Architect II Hanee Kevin said civil works on the pool, which is around 100 meters long, five meters wide and five feet deep, is targeted to be completed in six months.
This will include the construction of several structures that would house its electrical, mechanical, plumbing facilities and other features.
Kevin said the P19-million project cost will be shouldered by Bloomberry, a Manila-based company, as a donation to the city government while two private contractors chosen by the city will do the rejuvenation.
He said the City Environment and Parks Management Office head Atty. Rhenan Diwas and City Planning and Development Office head Arch. Donna Tabangin will serve as the project’s consultants to ensure quality work is done and finished on time.
Kevin said draining of the pool is ongoing with the fish located therein to be transferred to the Botanical Garden with some of the fish already transferred last year to Burnham lake.
The reflection pool’s facelift aims to encourage more tourists and residents to visit the site and hopefully declog the usual deluge of visitors at Burhnam Park, the city’s main promenade and recreation area.
He assured when finished, the rehabilitated pool located just a stone’s throw away from The Mansion will be free for the public to enjoy.
For the past years, the site has been a favorite jogging area of tourists and residents.
The rejuvenation is one of the city’s projects to be implemented this year as earlier announced by Mayor Benjamin Magalong to advance the city’s socio-economic development and environmental renaissance. – Gaby B. Keith
