Mayor Benjamin Magalong urged residents to strictly observe the modified liquor ban being enforced in the city as a precautionary measure against the virulent Delta variant of the Covid-19.
The modified liquor ban is in effect from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. pursuant to Executive Order 51, s. 2021 or the Revised General Community Quarantine Guidelines adopted last April 10.
The EO provides “there shall be temporary ban on the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages and liquor from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. the following morning. Where the consumption of alcoholic beverages is incidental to dining in duly inspected food and beverage retail establishments, the maximum quantity thereof that may be served shall be as follows:
For beer, wine, or cocktails: a maximum of four individual servings per diner;
For liquor and distilled spirits: a maximum of two bottles per table shared by two or more people where the volume of the beverage does not exceed one liter; or a maximum of one bottle per shared table of two or more people where the volume thereof exceeds one liter. Neither shall be served for any individual diner.”
The city adopted contingency measures against the more contagious and more severe variant which originated from and caused catastrophic effect in India and is now causing havoc in neighboring countries Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Among the strategies is intensifying control over the use and sale of liquor as drinking sprees were identified before as the source of some Covid-19 case outbreaks in the city.
