As local establishments prepare to welcome tourists, the Baguio City government is taking crucial steps to ensure the safety of guests and residents, including using robots to disinfect some critical areas.
Robotic Activations, a robotics provider is deploying a Danish industrial-grade autonomous UV-C disinfection robot called the Keno UV-C.
It will be used to sanitize City Hall, Baguio Teachers’ Camp, Sto. Niño Hospital, and the newly opened centralized triage area at the Baguio Convention Center, where tourists, returning residents, and other visitors of the city are being examined upon entry.
“This virus moves fast, and so should technology. We must embrace new and proven technology whenever we can to help fight Covid-19,” said Mayor Benjamin Magalong, who is often lauded for his aggressive and efficient management of Covid-19 in the city.
Robotic Activations, which has provided the service for free, has likewise expressed their commitment to contributing their technology and expertise to help the country fight the pandemic.
“We are extending our services to the city of Baguio free of charge primarily to help the city and to demonstrate how robotics can be an important ally in fighting Covid-19,” said Camille Anton-Mendoza, chief business development officer of Robotic Activations.
“Our aim is to increase the use of robotics and new technology in general as we move forward and ease into the new normal. Disinfection is only one of the many applications of robotics, and we are working on bringing in other types of robots that will prove very useful as well.”
