The Department of Social and Welfare and Development assured assistance to senior citizens remains to be a priority during the Covid-19 pandemic. 
In the recent online Kapihan sa Baguio media briefing, DSWD Cordillera Assistant Director for Operations Amelyn Cabrera reported social pension for the first semester of the year has already been released to 88,959 senior citizens in the region who are enrolled in the program. 
A total of P266,877,000 has already been disbursed, covering their stipends for January to June.
The senior citizens who received their social pension include 21,070 from Abra; 9,809 in Apayao; 1,777 in Baguio City; 18,625 in Benguet; 14,555 in Ifugao; 13,759 in Kalinga; and 9,305 in Mountain Province.
Under the DSWD Social Pension Program, enlisted beneficiaries are entitled to P500 stipend every month to augment their subsistence and other medical needs.  
Cabrera added 29 centenarians in the Cordillera have also received P100,000 cash grant each from the DSWD pursuant to the Centenarian Act of 2016. – Carlito C. Dar
