DOLORES, Abra – The Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Bayaan in this town has embarked on a worthy project by collecting plastic bottles in exchange for school supplies and learning materials for students.
Bayaan SK president Jewin Joyce C. Laureta shared their project, “Plastic mo, school supplies ko” during the Laging Handa network briefing with Presidential Communications and Operations Office Sec. Martin Andanar and Asec. Kris Ablan.
Laureta said through the project, they help the students avail of learning materials and at the same time protect the environment.
The collected plastic bottles will be used to make eco bricks that will be used as plots planted with vegetables.
Laureta said they have been giving free learning materials to students in their barangay, but since the Department of Education will use different learning delivery modalities, they saw the need to continue giving school supplies to students.
“We have also thought of those who are not able to connect online, so it is important for them to have learning modules,” Laureta said.
She hopes her fellow SK leaders will replicate the project to help students.
Laurente said they will also launch the “Salwad Kinasirib” where they will give flash drives, bond paper, ink, and other materials to teachers who need them for various alternative learning modalities. – PIA
