BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Sangguniang Kabataan of Samoki in this capital town, in partnership with different stakeholders, recently conducted a cleanup drive along Chico River to promote environmental awareness.

Collected during the cleanup drive from Chawer to Ab-abtana in Barangay Samoki were 123 sacks of assorted waste materials composed of plastics, bottles, and residuals. The collected wastes were segregated and disposed properly.

Officers from the Mountain Province Police Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology; Department of Environment and Natural Resources; Philippine Information Agency; the local government of Samoki and barangay health workers; and  Green Police; and Criminology interns from Mountain Province State Polytechnic College joined the youth in the cleanup drive.

The activity was also in line with the Month of the Ocean 2023 with the theme, “Sustainably feed the global population.”

SK Samoki President Anton Nasungan thanked the participants as he expressed hope for more collaboration not only on cleanup drives.

“We hope we can have more collaboration in the future not just on cleanup drives but on other social activities that also concern their respective office, which is in line with our mandate,” he said. – Valerie Taguba
