The Environment Management Division of the City Environment Parks Management Office has conducted four Sundays of free on-the-spot smoke emission tests.

EMD head Engr. Sofronio Pascua said 83 vehicles – 51 public utility jeepneys, 30 taxis and two private vehicles – were tested at Harrison Road and upper Session Road from June 4 up to mid-July .

Twenty-nine vehicles failed and a vehicle was not tested due to road unworthiness, Pascua said.

No fines are meted on vehicles failing the test, but owners are advised on how to reduce particle pollution and improve fuel efficiency. Vehicles that pass the emission test are given voluntary emission certificates which effective for one month.

Vehicles may just drop by at the testing areas this Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. either at upper Session Road or Harrison Road.

The Cepmo has been providing free smoke emission testing of motor vehicles to ensure these are not contributing to air pollution. – Julie G. Fianza
