An online sports showdown featuring the combative skills of student-athletes is set on Nov. 27.

The event, “Sab-lan National High School online combative sports skills showdown: Virtual edition,” will feature boxing, kickboxing, and wushu-sanda skills of students of SNHS and its affiliate schools.

The event will have a special participation from Pinget National High School under coach Arnold Cayso, Sta. Rosa City Kafagway Lions under coach Aries Estino, and some athletes of Kafagway MMA and University of Baguio under coach Dare Malecdan.

Organizer Bryan Olod of SNHS Kafagway Combative Club said the event will have each athlete perform a three-round shadow boxing, kickboxing, and wushu-sanda routine. Each round will have a duration of one minute and 30 seconds.

Categories include juniors male, juniors female, seniors male, and seniors female in the event done in partnership with Michael Humiding of Amazing Sports Promotions and with the full support of WRC General Merchandise.

“We will never let this pandemic hinder the physical development and growth of our student-athletes in school. That is why we created programs like this in our sports development program, which is also in compliance with the mandate of the Department of Education in creating a sports program and sports club,” Olod said.

The athlete with the best performance in the three skills in each category will be awarded a championship trophy while runner-ups will be given medals and cash prizes.

The event is backed by 50’s Diner, Break Room, Mumma Fight Club, Dinawis, MPH Community, MMA Strikers Fightshop, Han Yan Blades, Underground Battle MMA, Max Fusion, Isuzu, Trick Striker, Oriental Muayboran Academy, and Donnie Geisler Taekwondo Training Center.

The online sporting competition will be livestreamed on the official Facebook account of SNHS Kafagway Combative Club. – Ofelia C. Empian
