Due to the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, the first leg for the 2022 Spartan Race Series in Baguio City was moved from Feb. 12 to March 19.
Dubbed “Baguio Trail Half Marathon and 10K,” the classic trail runs will feature 21- and 10-kilometer races, according to Spartan Race Philippines.
“Take on a trail in the most picturesque locations coveted by racers around the world. Competitors get to test the element and overcome every type of terrain at blinding speeds in pursuit of the largest prize purse in trail running in the world,” Spartan race stated.
Registration for the race is ongoing at www.spartanrace.ph with the race guide to be sent a week before the competition date.
Finishers will receive trail finishers medal, T-shirt, and free photographs of the participants.
The Baguio leg will also serve as a qualifier for the Altitude Obstacle Course Racing World Series-Asia in Mt. Pulag on March 25 to 27.
The details of the OCR event, which is recognized by World Obstacle Internationale de Sports d’ Obstacles, are still being finalized by organizer Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation.
Organizers said the top 50 male and 50 female athletes will qualify for the altitude OCR world finals in Mount Toubkal, High Atlas Mountains in Morocco in July 2022.  
The updated schedule for the other leg of the Spartan Philippine races will be April 30 in Anda, Bohol; New Clark City Stadium on June 11; and La Ruta with venue to be announced on July 30.
The fifth leg is set at the Mactan Seagrove, Cebu on Aug. 13; Ilocos Sur on Sept. 23 to 24; Boracay in October with the exact date to be announced; and the last leg on Nov. 5 to 6 on a venue to be determined by the organizers. – Ofelia C. Empian
