A technical team from the city recently traveled to Lipa City and Tanauan City, Batangas to benchmark the existing abattoirs in relation to the proposed state-of-the-art city abattoir at the Baguio Dairy Farm.

City Veterinarian Brigit Piok said the team; composed of technical personnel from the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office, City Planning and Development Office, City Engineering Office, City Building and Architecture Office, and City Environment and Parks Management Office; will assess which of the two abattoirs could be replicated for the proposed city abattoir.

The technical team is also expected to observe how the abattoir produces chilled meat sold at the Lipa City market.

Piok said the technical personnel will then coordinate the preparation of the plans, specifications, and estimates of the proposed city abattoir that will be submitted to the Local Finance Committee.

Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong said the planned relocation of the city’s slaughterhouse to its proposed new site at the Baguio Dairy Farm will allow the city government to expand and improve its operations and services.

Part of the city abattoir will be a cold chain facility that may also be used as storage for vegetables and vaccines.

The city government planned to relocate the city’s abattoir to a public land in Pinsao Proper but it was met with various issues concerning the property that will delay the project.

The city government wants to transfer the abattoir as the present site is crowded, which recently caused an outbreak of Covid-19 among workers. – PIO release
