PINUKPUK, Kalinga – The community of Ammacian this municipality recently staged a walk for peace and denounced the infiltration, lies, and deception of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

Residents, led by Punong Barangay Roman Salucon, marched around the community with banners condemning the terroristic activities of the CPP-NPA-NDF.

The participants also signed a covenant of support and pledge of commitment to the government.

The activity is a local initiative in support to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (Elcac) in partnership with the 50th Infantry Battalion through the Philippine Army’s Community Support Program (CSP).

Salucon and retired Army Col. Basilio Bayog shared to the youth participants the atrocities perpetrated by the CPP-NPA-NDF in the 1980s and 1990s. 

The speakers said they hope that with the support of the community, Kalinga will be peaceful.  

Municipal Administrator Danzel Langkit said, “The intensified CSP of the Army, the efforts of the municipal task force Elcac, and the support of the community will sure bring an end to this conflict.”

Lt/Col. Allan Espela, 50th IB commanding officer, said the activity help empower communities to get involved in the campaign that seeks to culminate the struggles and adversities caused by the CPP-NPA-NDF.

The youth, led by Sangguniang Kabataan Chair Sheryll Mae Lammawin, Indigenous People’s Mandatory Representative, and members of the Kalinga-Apayao Youth Organization also joined the rally. – Peter A. Balocnit
