An open letter to Benny Carantes

I hope you and your family are all safe and doing well in this time despite the pandemic.
I am writing because I am trying to look for a long-lost good friend of mine in Los Angeles, California.
His name is Danny Gonzales. We worked together at Robinson’s-May department store for a long time and we lost communication when we got laid off many years ago.
At that time, social media and Internet were not that common. Last January, we had a Filipino group reunion and one of our colleagues said that Danny got shot and passed away.
I am in disbelief and heart broken. Our friend Danny is quiet formal but can joke and play around.
I tried to search on the Internet and finally came across your column published on Jan. 26, 2014 and I read your column on “Obits on Danny Gonzales.”
I wonder if this is my friend Danny Gonzales that I am looking for? All I know is he is from Baguio. He is such a private person. I have an old picture of him that I can send to you. I hope you will find time to respond to my inquiry. — JO CARLOS ([email protected]), Los Angeles, CA
