Why is there corruption?
In the presidential debate aired by CNN Philippines, corruption was the hot issue.
Despite several laws, systems, and procedures in financial transactions, corruption is still rampant in our country that hampers development and progress.
There are several factors why people corrupt. Among them is the exorbitant expenditures politicians incur during the campaign period and the material assistance they give when elected that they recover by all means.
The compensation of workers in our country is low such that they find crooked ways to survive.
Filipinos, although religious, often violate a commandment on stealing.
Also, it takes a long time for the judiciary to act on cases involving corruption.
