Filipino mixed martial arts female fighter Denice Zamboanga will face a veteran South Korean opponent in one of the main cards of the women’s atomweight world Grand Prix in Singapore on May 28.
The 24-year-old Zamboanga, who has been in training in Bangkok, Thailand, is confident she could upset 34-year-old Seo Hee Ham of South Korea in her ONE Championship debut.
ONE has announced the May 28 stacked cards will be an all-women show featuring the eight Grand Prix contenders while the main event will feature the championship showdown between reigning champion Xiong Jing Nan of China and Michelle Nicoline of Brazil for the ONE women’s strawweight belt.
While Ham is making her ONE debut, she was undefeated since 2017 and saw action in various MMA promotions, including four fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the world’s number one MMA promotion.
Ham’s vast experience having amassed 23 victories in 31 MMA professional fights is enough to pose a serious threat on Zamboanga, who will have her seventh professional fight in May.
Ham will be the fourth fighter Zamboanga will face inside the ONE circle after winning over three opponents under Asia’s top MMA promotion.
The winner between Zamboanga and Ham will face the winner between Alyona Rassohyna and Stamp Fairtex.
The two other Grand Prix bouts will be between Alyse Anderson and Itsuki Hirata and the much-awaited bout between Meng Bo and Ritu Phogat.
The Grand Prix champion will face reigning ONE women’s atomweight world champion Angela Lee, who is on maternity leave. – Harley F. Palangchao
