Contractors from Baguio and Benguet mounted a golf for-a-cause, raising close to P50,000, which was used to purchase basic necessities for survivors of Typhoon Ulysses in Cagayan.

All of the entry fees paid by the 15 participants, who played in their free time on Nov. 17 to 18, will be donated to the typhoon survivors, according to event secretariat Shairah Canadi.

Thanks to Ibaloy contractor Junjun Bantales for initiating the event, which was fully supported by players even on short notice.

One hundred thirty foods packs were sent to the recipients in Cagayan through Col. Ranser Evasco, director of the Nueva Vizcaya Police Provincial Office, who has been actively helping relief drive operations by Cordillera-based groups wanting to help the typhoon victims.

Those who joined were also among those who reached out to medical frontliners by donating cash and personal protective equipment, and by funding the installation of a temporary isolation facility when Baguio and Benguet were under the enhanced community quarantine.

Some of the participants donated additional cash on top of the entry fee they paid to be able to join the event, which had no awarding ceremony.

In compliance to the minimum health protocols, there was no gathering for participants, who played either by pair or at a maximum of four players per flight.

Golf tournaments, which can gather more than 50 players, are not yet allowed under the modified general community quarantine as per policy set by the National Inter-Agency Task Force. – Harley F. Palangchao
