The Department of Education-Benguet Division has set the first virtual Provincial Meet next month to provide opportunity for athletes and coaches continuous development through sports.
In Memorandum 58-2022, DepEd-Benguet said events to be contested virtually by elementary and secondary athletes include arnis, athletics basketball, gymnastics, sepak takraw, and taekwondo, while billiards and wushu will be limited to secondary athletes only.
The same memorandum has also allowed the conduct of face-to-face competitions such as billiards for secondary athletes and chess and boxing for elementary and secondary athletes.
Ceasar Luma-ang, Benguet Division sports coordinator, said these virtual and face-to-face events were submitted by tournament managers last year for review and approval of DepEd-Benguet.
The athletes’ performance in the different events should be video-recorded and be submitted directly to the tournament managers of each event.
Based on the memorandum, all video recordings must not be edited; otherwise, entries will be disqualified.
Deadline of entries is on May 22.
Appropriate sports attire must be worn by athletes during the performance.
The virtual Provincial Meet is open to currently enrolled learners in private and public schools.
Elementary participants should be born not earlier than Jan. 1, 2010 while secondary athletes should not be born later than Jan. 1, 2010.
Participants must be permitted by their parents/guardians to join the virtual sports skills contest.
A series of trainings and orientations of coaches and tournament managers was conducted in the previous months in preparation for the virtual Provincial Meet. – Elizabeth M. Dip-asen
