BOKOD, Benguet – The local government included children and breastfeeding mothers as among the priorities in the provision of relief assistance.

The local government distributed food packages tagged “Nutritious Pack” to children aged one to two years old, including underweight or stunted children and lactating mothers who are among the vulnerable sectors.

The initiative is part of the Bayanihan Heal as One Act program of the LGU, giving attention to those whose health and nutrition may be disrupted due to limited access to basic goods and services during emergency situations.

This is under the nutrition in emergency situations scheme to protect and promote the vulnerable sectors.

“During this pandemic, our children and their mothers are also at risk. Thus, with the help of our Municipal Action Officer together with the members of the Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC) we allotted P500,000 to purchase the Nutritious Pack for our children and for the breastfeeding mothers in our municipality,” said Mayor Thomas K. Wales, Jr. in his Facebook post.

“I believe that if we have children with good nutrition, we will have a healthier and wealthier community because they are our future. Therefore, we must invest in them and in their nutrition,” he added.

MNAO Aurelia Wales said the MNC distributed the nutrition packs to 760 recipients in the 10 barangays.

A pack contained two 250 grams Star Margarine, one 800 grams oatmeal, one 700 grams powdered milk, 500 grams mongo, 150 grams dried fish, and one pack biscuit.

The local government also distributed 25 kilograms of rice to those who were not able to receive assistance from the government’s Social Amelioration Program or families that are not under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.  raw meat. – Susan C. Aro
