AGUINALDO, Ifugao – Mayor Gaspar Chilagan Jr. has ordered the creation of the Aguinaldo Quarantine Task Force against African Swine Fever (ASF) through Executive Order 2019-21 to ensure food safety and security within the municipality.
Chilagan said there is a need to establish biosecurity measures in order to protect swine backyard raisers in the municipality against ASF.
The task force consists of the municipal veterinarian as chair and municipal agriculturist as co-chair.
Members are the municipal health officer, municipal sanitary inspector, municipal nutritionist and the chief of police.
The task force is tasked to set up quarantine checkpoints in all ingress and egress of the municipality and prohibit the entry of live animals, meat products and by-products unless it has a veterinary health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian and shipping permit issued by the Bureau of Animal Industry.
It will also monitor and report any unusual number of swine mortalities in the municipality and educate or advice swine farmers to observe good animal husbandry practices and biosecurity measures. – Marcelo B. Lihgawon
