With the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association meet 2020 set next month in Baguio, the capital towns of La Trinidad, Benguet and Bontoc, Mountain Province are set to field their respective athletes.
La Trinidad emerged as champion during the Benguet Provincial Athletic Meet recently with 193 gold, 109 silver, and 80 bronze medals edging out other 12 municipalities in the province including Benguet State University. 
Tuba came in second with 61 gold, 55 silver, and 58 bronze medals followed by Itogon mining 39 gold, 53 silver, and 55 bronze medals then Buguias with 28 gold, 43 silver, and 49 bronze medals.
In fifth place is Tublay with 24 gold and 15 silver medals followed by BSU with 20 gold, 32 silver, and 28 bronze medals then Mankayan with 19 gold, 13 silver, and 33 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, Bontoc won the overall championship with 75-47-44 medal haul, edging Bauko 1 that came home with 55-51-59 during the provincial sports meet.
Following them is Tadian with 50-53-53 medals while Paracelis surprised the field after placing fourth with 50-42-56 medals.
Sabangan placed fifth with 43-41-38 followed by Bauko 2 with 26-56-49 medals.
The different gold medalists in their respective events, as well as top performers, earned a ticket to the Caraa to be hosted by Baguio.
The city will spend P8.3 million for the hosting of this year’s event.
Over 6,000 athletes and officials from the other provinces in the region and host Baguio are expected to join the weeklong sports meet sanctioned by the Department of Education in partnership with various local government units. – Ofelia C. Empian
