Benguet-based boxer Carlo Magali captured the vacant Asian Boxing Federation super featherweight belt and the vacant Philippine super featherweight belt at the Manila Arena on Dec. 21.

The 33-year-old Magali clinched the belts via split decision victory against Al Toyogon in the main event of Knockout promoted by Brico Santig and Darwin Miller Dep-ay of Highland Boxing and DMAD Promotions.

Magali won from the scores of judges Oliver Garcia and Gil Co with 115-112 while judge Robert Bridges gave it to Toyogon 116-111.

Known for his powerful punches, Magali of the La Trinidad-based Highland Boxing Gym, improved his record to 25 wins with 13 knockouts against 13 defeats and three draws while the 21-year-old Toyogon dropped to 10 wins, six defeats and one draw.

In June 2018, Magali failed to defend his Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation super featherweight belt to undefeated Japanese boxer Hionori Mishiro via split decision in their 12-round championship bout in Japan.
