Undefeated boxer Carl Jammes “Wonderboy” Martin continues to introduce himself in the national scene by knocking out fellow Filipino boxer Philip Cuedro to retain the Philippine Boxing Federation bantamweight belt in Manila, Dec. 21.

The 20-year-old Martin of Lagawe, Ifugao connected with powerful combinations in the third round of their 10-round bout forcing a technical knockout stoppage in his favor.

The unanswered combinations from Martin in the third frame forced Cuedro’s coach Jonathan Peñalosa to come to the latter’s rescue to protect his ward from further damage.

Before the stoppage, Martin was effective with his right counter punch, as both fighters possess a southpaw stance.

The Wonderboy was cautious and was showing some respect on Cuedro in the first and two rounds, as the latter is also known for his knockout power.

Cuedro has connected with looping overhand rights but it did not prevent the Ifugao boxer from attacking him until the stoppage.

Martin has improved his record to 15 wins with 14 by way of knockouts or technical knockouts while Cuedro dropped to 11 wins, nine losses, and one draw.

Martin currently has one Luzon, one national title, and six regional titles (Asia-Pacific) the past three years.

Last year, he retained the World Boxing Organization Oriental Youth and World Boxing Association-Asia bantamweight titles. – Harley F. Palangchao
