One of the benefits of living in a democracy like ours is the power to select our honorable leaders via the ballot. Fortunately or unfortunately, the vast majority of those voted into office are the same people or their relatives in every election since time immemorial. Maybe most Filipinos just love political dynasties and their style of leadership so much.
Again, democracy, right? Whether this has been good or bad for our beloved Philippines is anybody’s guess. So far, our country has been described as the Sick Man of Asia for decades now. Something to think about.
Anyway, as we troop to the polls next year for national and local elections, this near-sighted Ibaloy writer is hopeful that the exercise would finally bring meaningful change for the better to the Philippines and its people. However, I am realistic and jaded enough to realize that nothing will change and more of the same will occur. So, it will be the same members of political dynasties who will once again lord it over the teeming masses for the next three years and beyond. Hopefully, I would be proven wrong. Hopefully.
Again, we are a democracy so the will of the majority prevails and must be respected. We deserve the leaders we choose. If my prediction comes true, it will be more fun for political dynasties as usual in next year’s elections. We only have ourselves to thank or blame for this. Still, millions of our countrymen have voted with their feet by going abroad to achieve better lives for themselves and their families. Millions have already made other countries their home. If given the chance and resources, millions more will gladly flee our beloved land. That’s democracy, I guess. Mabuhay!

Here’s “Life through my eyes” by Tupac Shakur: “Life through my bloodshot eyes/ would scare a square 2 death/ poverty, murder, violence/ and never a moment 2 rest/ Fun and games are few/ but treasured like gold 2 me/ cuz I realize that I must return/ 2 my spot in poverty/ But mock my words/ when I say/ my heart will not exist/ unless my destiny comes through/ and puts an end 2 all of this”

Let’s end with a prayer: “Heavenly Father, thank you that you are the source of all true joy in life. Your word says that everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. Please help me to receive all the good gifts you give me with thanksgiving and gratitude in my heart. You have loved me and have freed me from my sins by Jesus’ blood. To you be glory and dominion forever and ever. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
