People’s Television Network (PTV)-Cordillera and the Office of Civil Defense-Cordillera have forged a memorandum of understanding instituting an Emergency Broadcast System in the region.
The MOU lays down the partnership of PTV and the OCD on the management protocols in providing real-time emergency broadcasts and other disaster-related advisories through traditional and non-traditional or online media.
During the signing ceremony, PTV-Cordillera Station Manager Richard S. Valdez emphasized the advantage of the system in the monitoring and warning functions of the Cordillera Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council Emergency Operations Center, which is being manned by the OCD.
OCD-Cordillera Director Albert A. Mogol said the partnership and the system is geared towards enhancing disaster resilience in the Cordillera through public information management, education, and dissemination.
“This Emergency Broadcast System will definitely strengthen disaster preparedness and planning from the regional down to the family level. This system will provide necessary and timely, relevant, and responsive information on existing risks and hazards which will guide the stakeholders and families what to prepare for,” he added.
The OCD and PTV-Cordillera tested airing emergency broadcasts early this year, particularly on advising the public to stay alert and prepared for usual hydrometeorological hazards like thunderstorms and tropical cyclones. – Press release
