Southeast Asia Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (Searca), one of the pioneer institutions of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization, inked a memorandum of understanding for collaboration with Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rice Research Institute.
Adopting a holistic and inter-disciplinary approach, SEARCA and DA-PhilRice will collaborate on programs, projects, and other related activities addressing the challenges identified by Searca on its strategic plan.
Among these challenges include global warming and unpredictable weather patterns; periodic but unpredictable food shortages and price spikes; uneven, inequitable, and jobless economic growth; and globalized supply chains. Exchange of scientific materials, publications, and information will also take place.
Dr. John C. De Leon, DA-PhilRice executive director, and Dr. Glenn Gregorio, Searca director, signed the MOU on Jan. 20.
Searca was established in 1966 by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization.
Aside from giving high-quality graduate education in agriculture, Searca also works in promoting and coordinating research programs and circulating agricultural research findings. – Press release
