The first batch of contact tracers to be trained by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority started last Oct. 19 in Kapangan, Benguet.
Participants of the eight-day community-based training on the competencies of contact tracing are composed of nine nurses, three midwives, a teacher, a nutritionist, and a Criminology graduate.
Tesda-Benguet will provide the participants with personal protective equipment, scanner, blood pressure monitoring apparatus, stethoscope, and other materials.
After the training, the graduates will receive a certificate of completion and will be deployed in the municipality as contact tracers.
Tesda Provincial Director Vilma C. Cabrera hopes that the 15 pioneer students will be a big help in the government’s Covid-19 response. She said in the following weeks, other trainees from the 12 towns of Benguet will also begin their training.
“This is the immediate need of the new normal. Since our cases here in Benguet are rising, we need more contact tracers to mitigate the spread of this deadly virus,” Cabrera said.
Cabrera urged graduates of medical-related courses to join the training.
Applicants should have completed 10 years basic education or Alternative Learning System certificate of completion and with basic communication skills. Graduates of medical-related courses and community health workers in the municipality or barangay will be prioritized.
Those interested but are not based in Benguet may enroll either at the Baguio City School of Arts and Trades or the Blue Phenix both with registered programs in Contact Tracing Level II. – Press release
