Benguet National High School’s Ignis Terraemotus Fumus (ITF), an emergency alarm device capable of detecting fire, earthquake, and gas which can send an SMS and extinguish fire, will represent the Department of Education-Cordillera in the 2020 National Science and Technology.
The school will join the national fair under the Robotics and Intelligent Machines Category Feb. 10 to 14 in Cubao, Quezon City.
The group is composed of Le June Rafael and Shaila Pilo, grade 12 STEM students, and their two coaches.
Robotics is not part of the STEM curriculum, but their coaches recognize the need to introduce Robotics to their STEM students to prepare them to integrate science and mathematics concepts into design-based learning practices.
They recognize that Robotics can help their students become better problem solvers, creative and critical thinkers, and collaborators – skills that are necessary in the workforce and all areas of life.
The entry of the Tublay School of Home Industries, also from the DepEd-Benguet Division, will also join the fair under the Science Innovation Expo from.
Along with the Benguet NHS’s entry, other finalists will come from Abra HS of Abra, Saint Louis University. – Eugene Espiritu
