The Regional Committee Against Trafficking  and Violence Against Women and their Children led by the   Department of Social Welfare and Development Cordillera will spearhead this year’s Safer Internet Day on March 3 in Baguio City.
The event promotes a safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially by children and young people, since while Internet is a powerful tool with enormous opportunities for learning, enhancing skills, acquiring new abilities and knowledge, and getting in touch anywhere, it comes with hazards.
It will be highlighted with a forum on responsible use of social media with students of Lucban High School with resource speakers coming from the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Police Regional Office-Cordillera, and Philippine Information Agency.
Libertine Balicdang of DSWD said the event aims to address the current issues that influence particularly the young users online, from cyber bullying to social networking.
The theme for this year observance is “Responsableng paggamit ng Internet,” which is a call to action for all stakeholders to join together and play their part in creating a better Internet for everyone.
The Safe Internet Day also aims to raise awareness and help by concrete actions to create not only a safe place but also a better place when online. – Joseph B. Zambrano
